D7 visa in Portugal – main points

1The visa is issued for individuals with passive income, freelancers and "digital nomads" wishing to obtain a Portuguese residence permit.
2A visa is issued to citizens of non-EU countries.
3The candidate must be ready to prove their financial self-sufficiency.
4The visa is issued for a period of 120 days and allows two entries into the country. Within this period, you will need to enter Portugal and apply for a residence permit.
5After the interview at the Portuguese immigration service, you receive a residence permit and resident status for a period of 2 years with the possibility of extension.
6After five years of legal residence in Portugal, you are entitled to apply for Portuguese citizenship.
7Along with the main applicant, their spouse, minor children, and parents can also apply for a Portuguese residency permit under the D7 visa.
8The requirement for D7 visa renewal is staying in the country for at least 16 months during the first 2 years. The period of absence must not exceed 6 consecutive months.
9Submission of the set of documents for a D7 visa is carried out at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Portugal in the country of residence. The processing time is 90-120 days.

    Proof of income
    Proof of consistent regular income for 12 months. The monthly income must be at least €705 – the minimum wage in Portugal in 2022.
    Availability of funds
    You must have funds totalling at least €8,460 in a bank account with a Portuguese bank for the first adult, plus 50% for your spouse and 30% for each child
    Housing availability
    The third condition is the availability of accommodation in Portugal, either owned or mortgaged. A long-term rental agreement is also suitable. The rental period must be at least 12 months, preferably longer.

    Checklist of required documents

    1Confirmation of a predictable, regular income. For example, a personal income tax return (NDFL or NDFL-2), service provision agreements, certificates from companies to which you have provided services, bank transfers to your account, etc.
    2Documentary proof of sufficient funds to support oneself and one's dependents while living in Portugal (a Portuguese bank statement showing a stable balance of at least €8,460 euros or more for a single applicant).
    3Documentary proof of residence in Portugal (title deed, lease agreement or mortgage agreement).
    4A passport valid for at least 6 months after the expiry date of your D7 visa.
    5Official statement outlining your motives for obtaining a residence permit in Portugal.
    6Medical insurance policy with a coverage amount of at least 30,000 euros and for a period of at least 120 days.
    7Certificate of good conduct with an apostille affixed to the original and translated into Portuguese.
    8Two 3.5x4.5 cm colour photographs and a flight reservation to Portugal.
